Firewall Specialist
Location: Remote and Onsite as Required: Wytheville, Virginia (with travel to Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, and Wythe Counties, as well as the City of Galax)

Job Summary
- Evaluate and enhance firewall configurations, policies, and systems to improve MRCS’s overall security posture.
- Conduct detailed reviews of firewall logs, configurations, and related systems to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform onsite and offsite firewall configuration reviews and analysis.
- Review overall firewall configurations, protocols, filters, and IPS settings.
- Identify vulnerabilities and recommend adjustments for compliance with NIST 800-171 standards.
- Assist MRCS staff in implementing firewall changes to mitigate identified risks.
Firewall Evaluation
- Validate and document firewall policies, applications, and logs for security gaps.
- Evaluate configurations for alignment with industry best practices.
Reporting and Documentation
- Deliver detailed reports summarizing findings, risks, and recommendations for firewall improvement.
- Provide actionable steps for remediation and ongoing firewall monitoring.
Coordination and Communication
- Liaise with MRCS personnel and vendors to ensure efficient execution of firewall evaluations.
- Report progress and outcomes to stakeholders and provide technical support for implementation.
Compliance and Best Practices
- Conduct evaluations in compliance with NIST 800-171 and cybersecurity standards.
- Utilize industry-standard tools and methodologies for assessment.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Network Security, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in firewall evaluations and network security.
- Certifications: PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, CCNP Security.
- Skills: Strong understanding of network protocols, firewall configurations, and intrusion prevention systems.
Work Environment
- Travel across MRCS service areas for onsite firewall evaluations.
- Work may be required after hours to minimize disruptions.
- Standard working hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.05 - $22.23 per hour
