OPERATIONS MANAGER

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
STATUS: Full time, Benefited
FLSA STATUS: Salaried, Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations Manager is responsible for supporting multiple areas within the zoo including Guest Services, Field Services, in-park rides, in-park transportation, and the ropes course. The Operations Manager may supervise up to 100 seasonal employees, including seasonal guest services and security coordinators, as well as full time hourly supervisors. The Operations Manager sponsors the zoo’s safety and security program, taking steps to ensure the safety and security of guests and staff. The Operations Manager leads by example and is a key part of the Operations Department management team.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lead and motivate staff to attain excellence in operations.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks in several different operational areas.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- General math and computer skills required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, hire, and train seasonal employees and full-time hourly supervisors.
- Provide daily direction to seasonal staff and hourly supervisors.
- Motivate and hold employees accountable to policy, procedure, and expected standards.
- Ensures staff have tools and resources to perform their job duties effectively.
- Ensure safety supplies are stocked, in place, and operational.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and report exceptions to the Director of Operations.
- Conduct employee terminations and as needed.
- Ensure operational controls are in place and executed to protect cash and zoo assets.
- Oversee employee scheduling, ensuring proper staff coverage to support operational needs.
- Support and fulfill zoo security tasks and responsibilities.
- Collaborate and partner with other managers and zoo staff.
- Trouble shoots operational issues to minimize downtime, lost revenue, and impact on the guest experience.
- Generate reports using TAM Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
- Execute business plans to drive performance goals and objectives.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Procure inventory and supplies to meet business needs.
- Work with vendor partners on equipment, supplies, and maintenance as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises up to 100 seasonal and non-seasonal employees.
- Supervises Guest Service Attendants, Ropes Course Operators, Field Services, and Transportation.
- Supervises Guest Services Supervisor, Security Coordinator, Guest Service Coordinators.
- Areas of responsibility include Binder Carousel, Z.O.&O. Train, Zoorassic Park, tram operations, and ropes course.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement new revenue opportunities.
- Create and implement training manuals for areas of responsibility.
- Comply with all Binder Park Zoo policies and procedures.
- Participate in zoo events as needed.
- Program POS system with prices and items as needed.
- Oversee pavilion rentals, birthday party reservations, and group sale transactions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and ability to stand for a period of up to 5 hours.
- Ability to read, speak and write English in order to fulfill job functions in an understandable way.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
