JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificated by the State Board of Nursing as a Nurse's Assistant. Successful completion of a medical terminology class or successful completion of prescribed test of medical terminology knowledge.
Minimum Work Experience: Surgical and/or Medical Supply experience helpful, not required. Minor Computer skills.
Required Licenses / Certifications: BLS certification required. CNA recommended, not required.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Understanding and following of hospital mission statement of high quality, high compassion, and high customer service. Works collaboratively and positively with surgical staff, anesthesia staff, physicians, Materials Management and staff from other departments. Creation and maintenance of a safe and comfortable environment in which surgery can take place. Treats all visitors and staff courteously. Provides friendly service to all staff members. Responsible for stocking and inventory of unit supplies in the surgery core. Keeps work spaces neat and clean. Answers telephone calls, when needed in a professional manner. Assists physicians when needed. Attends all staff meetings. Completes any cleaning duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned by materials MGR, Surgical Services Dir, or OR charge nurse(s). Understands getting OR charge items for the previous day done within 24 hours or sooner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Functions as a role model for current and new staff. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the Surgical services division as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Will communicate with surgical team or materials management possible conflicts or potential problems. Will communicate with billing department possible conflicts or potential problems. Provides emotional support and comfort measures. Attends continuing education programs in order to maintain hospital and department standards. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by hospital and department standards. Maintains CPR certification. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide charge capture accuracy and timeliness. Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide non-direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of supervisor. Operates hospital computer system.
