Binghamton University's Cinema Department develops artists and creative thinkers who are willing to explore experimental modalities of practice. A strong history of underground and independent production has made our trailblazing department an antidote to the Hollywood industry model.
We seek applicants for a tenure-track position in film studies with specialization in cinema histories, and theories of media, and / or moving image art. The ideal candidate will have a research and teaching concentration that addresses cinema through a global approach to theories and practices of the moving image. We especially welcome candidates whose work demonstrates expertise in one or more of the following areas : race and ethnicity; transnationality; diasporic and / or hemispheric contexts and cultures; the internationalization of cultural forms and publics; circulation and migration; colonialism, decolonization, and post-colonialism; and networks of global exchange.
This is a full-time, tenure-track appointment in our film studies stream at the rank of assistant professor with a 2 / 2 teaching load. The successful candidate will maintain an active scholarly practice and will also contribute to the department via service, including committee work, independent studies, thesis advising, curricular development, etc. We started an MFA in Cinema Program in Fall 2023, and the successful applicant will work together with the faculty, staff, and students to shape this new program.

Job Requirements :
Preferred applicants will hold a PhD in film studies (by August 18, 2025) but candidates with a strong research profile in film studies from a related field will also be given consideration. Teaching experience at the college level is required.
