Budget Title: Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)
Salary: $42,995 (10-month, college year)
Binghamton University Theater is seeking an Assistant Technical Director to participate in the building, movement, and installation of stage scenery. The Department is committed to inclusive undergraduate teaching/mentoring for our diverse and ambitious student body and a faculty that models excellent collaborative skills.
Duties include:
- Participate in the construction and rigging of scenery, rough and finish carpentry, scenic painting, and installation of scenic elements.
- In conjunction with other production staff members, ensure proper training of students in the use of scene shop tools and equipment.
- Supervise students in execution of scenery creation and prop run duties during production, build, load-in, technical rehearsals, strikes, and other projects as assigned.
- Translate artistic designs into construction drawings as directed by Technical Director and communicate design and technical information to undergraduate student crews.
- Organization and maintenance of the scene shop, its equipment and supplies and all performance spaces.
- Remaining familiar with and enforcing applicable theater and shop safety codes and practices.
- Assist with events in Theater Dept.
- Manage project time and workflow to meet deadlines.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience working in a scene shop in a professional and/or academic setting
- Experience in carpentry or furniture construction
- Experience with applicable safety codes and practices
- Experience reading and interpreting construction and design drawings
- Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
- Being comfortable working at heights on ladders and personnel lifts
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as necessary
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
Preferred:
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
