Budget Title : Postdoctoral Associate (SL-1)

Salary : $80,000 (12-month position)

The Department of Teaching, Learning & Educational Leadership at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for a full time, 12-month, two-year, post-doctoral fellowship through SUNY's Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG ) program with a focus on child and adolescent mental health to begin in Fall 2025 to begin in Fall 2025. The fellowship could lead to a tenure-line appointment.

The PRODiG Fellowship is designed to : (1) increase the number and share of excellent and diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates.

The successful candidate will have expertise in childhood and early childhood education. The teaching load for this position is 1-2 (fall-spring semesters), and the faculty member's primary affiliation will be within the Master of Science in Childhood / Early Childhood Education (CEC) Program, a program for students seeking a master's degree and NYS initial teaching certifications to teach in grades birth through grade 6 with a specialization in either literacy or special education (all grades).

The Department of Teaching, Learning & Educational Leadership is part of Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA). CCPA is composed of five departments : Human Development, Public Administration and Policy, Social Work, Higher Education and Student Affairs, and Teaching, Learning, and Educational Leadership, as well as an interdisciplinary doctoral program in Community Research and Action, all of which prepare students for community-building professions. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, creative team of cutting-edge scholars and educators, who are committed to preparing students to be well grounded in research-informed discipline-based, culturally responsive teaching practices, as well supporting students to understand the teaching and learning process as embedded within the social, cultural, historical, and familial assets of the communities in which they teach. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester. Courses may be at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate must have a clear research trajectory and be able to demonstrate a commitment to a high-quality research agenda in support of marginalized populations. Requirements :

  • Doctoral degree or anticipation of having doctoral degree conferred by July 1st, 2025 in childhood or early childhood education, curriculum and instruction, educational studies or closely related field
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa scholarship. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and / or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and / or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic / scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer / unpaid / community service; or related experience / expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and / or populations
  • Demonstration of strong potential for developing an independent research program focused on diversity, equity and inclusion in educational settings
  • Earned teaching certificate in childhood or early childhood education and a minimum of three years of teaching experience within this grade band

Preferred :

  • A commitment to in-person teaching
  • Supervision and mentorship of elementary or early childhood education students in field experience settings
  • Expertise in childhood / early childhood pedagogy and content
  • Experience in course and program development
  • Collaboration with teachers and schools
  • Strong and successful graduate and / or undergraduate teaching record
  • Preference will be given to candidates who :

  • Are current SUNY doctoral students, alumni, and / or Fellows
  • Are from a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans
  • Salary : $80,000
