Position Overview : The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, accounting, and reporting within the organization. The ideal candidate will ensure that financial records are maintained in compliance with US GAAP, oversee internal controls, and manage audits and compliance work. This role requires a detail-oriented, proactive leader who will work closely with the executive leadership team to drive continuous improvement, support strategic initiatives, and optimize the company’s financial processes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Financial Recordkeeping & Compliance Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with US GAAP through periodic balance sheet reviews, communication of current issues, and best practice sharing. Maintain excellence in account reconciliations, ensuring 100% on-time and accurate completion.
- Internal Control & Compliance Coordinate and perform compliance tasks, including maintaining proper internal control documentation, monitoring control design, and evaluating the effectiveness of controls.
- Review & Oversight Conduct thorough reviews of materials submitted by others, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness. Prepare position papers on complex accounting issues, and collaborate with the CFO on significant matters or concerns.
- Audit & Reporting Lead the process over annual financial statement audits, 401k audits, insurance audits, and federal, state, local, and sales tax returns. Ensure all statutory reporting is completed on time and accurately. Proactively manage external audits and coordinate timely implementation of corrective actions. Heavy involvement with cash collections and working capital / cash management with ownership of daily cash management and insights on intermediate and longer-term cash forecasting.
- Collaboration & Business Strategy Work closely with the executive leadership team to identify business risks and opportunities, clarify financial explanations and reports, resolve discrepancies, and improve processes. Support strategic decision-making by providing clear and concise financial reports and insights. Liaison communication with banking and lending institutions, fostering healthy relationships for long-term success. Lead special project / impact studies on as-needed basis.
- Financial Due Diligence & Integration Lead financial due diligence and integration for any acquired or divested businesses. Develop and manage the financial diligence and integration playbook. Identify and resolve any accounting issues related to acquisitions or divestitures.
- Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization Lead a robust continuous improvement initiative to simplify, speed up, and improve the accuracy of information flow within the Finance organization. Implement Lean initiatives related to financial close processes and other key business processes.
- Capital Requests & Fixed Asset Management Ensure all capital requests are supported by a solid business case, with appropriate payback analysis (NPV) and error-free documentation. Oversee fixed asset records and ensure compliance with related policies and procedures.
- System Implementation & Utilization Support system implementations, including software like Great Plains and Salesforce, and ensure their optimal use across all financial operations.
- Board & Senior Management Support Assist the CFO in preparing materials for periodic senior management reviews with the Board of Directors (BOD).
- Team Leadership & Development Create and maintain a productive work environment through effective communication and involvement of team members, in line with the Binswanger Finance Strategy. Manage and develop the finance team, ensuring clear communication and collaboration. Train and mentor staff to assist in professional growth for long term company success.
- People Management & Communication Demonstrate strong people management skills with an emphasis on over-communication and leadership to ensure alignment and optimal performance within the team.
