Overview
The Transportation Planner is responsible for managing inbound, interplant, and direct-to-customer shipments from planning to completion. This role ensures cost-effective, timely, and compliant transportation solutions by coordinating with carriers, internal teams, and customers. The Transportation Planner also assists the Transportation Manager with special projects, analysis, and metric reporting while proactively identifying process improvements and efficiency opportunities.
Responsibilities
Verify bulk customer orders in TMS before carrier tendering, ensuring accuracy in location, contact details, product type, quantity, and delivery method.
Manage and track shipments, ensuring on-time pickup and delivery while monitoring costs, service levels, and carrier compliance.
Optimize routing and consolidate loads using transportation software to minimize costs and improve efficiency.
Communicate with carriers, brokers, and internal teams to resolve issues, facilitate dock adjustments, and enhance customer service.
Assist carriers with pickup and delivery appointments, troubleshooting issues that prevent timely execution.
Analyze data to identify cost-saving and service improvement opportunities, implementing best practices for continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate documentation of all customer interactions, shipment updates, and performance reports.
Provide daily updates to the Senior Planner and attend meetings with carriers, sites, and cross-functional teams.
Support multiple customer accounts, ensuring high-quality service and efficient problem resolution.
May perform other duties as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience with a Transportation Management System (TMS) is required.
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to change.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment and managing multiple priorities.
Excellent customer service, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and internet-based software.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Must be able to work in-office, Monday–Friday
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.93 - $21.32 per hour
