We are looking for a meticulous phlebotomist for Full-Time work for a hybrid role; CPT-1 Phlebotomy and Clerical. The work days for this role are generally Monday through Friday, day shifts. The individual will be responsible for drawing blood from patients for diagnostic testing in a physician based service and oversee all clerical work involved. They will be responsible for patient care, client and physician customer service. This role will require a flexible, dependable and adaptable individual that thrives in a fast paced environment all while maintaining laboratory efficiency. Most importantly possesses a high level of ethical work standard with a drive to grow with our company.
Phlebotomist Requirements:
- Have a current California State drivers license and maintain an active CPT-1 license.
- Proven 1-2 years of experience working as a phlebotomist.
- Understanding of proper patient identification methods.
- Knowledge of proper requisition workup and identifying key factors including patient demographics, physician demographics, diagnosis codes, insurance and test orders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills when completing documentation for sample preparation.
- Keen attention to detail when analyzing requisitions and tests ordered.
- At least 1-2 years knowledge of basic, common orderable and universal tests ordered.
- Knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to drawing blood which include proper order of draw, handling specimen samples after collection and the use of relevant phlebotomy equipment, proper use of PPE.
- Experience using effective veni-puncture techniques in arms or hands on adults, pediatrics, geriatrics, bariatrics, cancer and diabetic patients using particularly 21, 22 gauge straight needle and hub or 21, 23 gauge butterflies.
- Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Properly discard all biohazard phlebotomy equipment and materials used during venipuncture.
- Ensure proper labeling and implement effective use of additional measures for proper patient identification.
- Knowledge of testing protocols and the use of testing equipment, ie; centrifuges.
- Knowledge of basic patient care in the case of syncope episodes or sudden illness. Able to follow specific protocols for these types of incidents.
- Follow policies and procedures according to OSHA, HIPPA and other safety organizations.
- Be transparent and accountable to be able to report and navigate unforeseeable mistakes so as to not compromise the health or well being of our clients and patients.
- Able to lift 50lbs.
Phlebotomist Responsibilities:
- Possess current CPT-1, CA Driver License and drivers insurance.
- Open and close the patient service center on time according to office hours.
- Be able to work independently and efficiently. Adaptable/flexible, enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in direction.
- Answer patient questions to the best of one’s ability while maintaining professionalism and troubleshooting difficult questions properly.
- Supplying diagnostic notes to physicians or other healthcare professionals.
- Keeping and maintaining records, monitoring volume of draws.
- Cleaning, maintaining areas tidy and organized.
- Ordering supplies and maintaining supply rotation by identifying expiration dates.
- Answering phones while maintaining professionalism and phone etiquette, answering voicemails in a timely manner and returning calls.
- Scheduling patients for lab appointments.
- Answering daily emails, sending emails using professional and proper grammar and or patient email reminders if requested.
- Logging data, proper filing skills, data/record keeping, reporting monthly totals.
- Possess basic computer skills and knowledge in operating Microsoft desktop PC: ie: turning on and shutting down/rebooting.
- Be able to troubleshoot basic printer issues, ie; changing toner and drum, reset wifi feature, printing, scanning and faxing.
- Be familiar with basic computer apps, ie; Google Chrome, Sheets/Excel, Docs/Word, Google Chat etc. In addition, know how to proficiently navigate the web, download and upload PDFs for emails, and be willing to learn laboratory/portal software.
- Possess meticulous attention to detail and be able to monitor the service center assigned to the employee. Report any and all issues of urgency in a timely manner.
- Monitor and report any changes in the environment that may be significant or impactful to the service center.
- Be able to work harmoniously with other staff not directly employed by the company to ensure the satisfaction of our client and client's personnel, while maintaining a great level of respect and professionalism.
- Assess requisitions with new ordering physicians and obtain and relay information that may be useful for potential leads.
- May be required to work overtime from time to time to ensure completion of specimen preparation and complete scheduled appointments.
- May be required to assist with courier shifts when needed or in emergency situations that entail a late shift ranging from 2:00pm-10:00pm.
- May be required to cover one Saturday per month in other locations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $19.50 per hour
