Job Title: Controls Engineering Supervisor
Location: Long Beach, CA

FLSA Status: Full Time / Exempt
Pay Range: $155,000 to $165,000 Annually (dependent on experience / qualifications). Salary is based on Long Beach, CA location, and will be adjusted for candidates in other states if required.

Job Purpose: Under general direction of the Director of Engineering, the Controls Engineering Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and executing controls engineering activities within projects while taking on leadership responsibilities to manage and mentor a growing team. This position will require both technical expertise and people management skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervises the design, development, and commissioning of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for RNG plants
- Provides guidance, mentorship, and direction to a team of Controls Engineers in designing, programming, and commissioning control systems
- Strategically manages resource allocation for multiple projects, balancing workload across team members to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines
- Acts as the point of contact for cross-disciplinary collaboration with Process, Mechanical, and Electrical teams
- Promotes collaboration among team members and fosters a culture of innovation and continuous learning
- Troubleshoots complex technical issues and supports the team during project execution and startup phases
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and training new electrical team members
- Supports budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning for electrical engineering activities
- Travel as necessary, with the ability to obtain a Passport to travel outside the United States
- These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial engineering
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Automation/Controls engineering
- Proven experience as a team lead overseeing the design and commissioning of diverse projects
- Experience with PLC control systems: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs, SLDs, and Instruments List
- PLC Programming skills: Ladder logic, Function Block, STL, Boolean logic
- PLC Experience with automation Network Protocols: Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP/RTU
- PLC Experience with HMI: PanelView, C-more, etc.
- Experience with SCADA systems: Ignition, Wonderware
- Basic level SCADA Programming Skills: Python, SQL, JavaScript
- SCADA networking skills to develop the architecture for equipment communication and data collection for the local plan, ensuring capability with global architecture
- Ability to design fluid GUI with focus on providing rich user experience while being intuitive and easy for Operators
- Ability to read and understand electrical specific drawings with SLDs, Panel Drawings, etc.
- Familiar with NFPL and UL Electrical Codes
- Experience in designing industrial Controls Panels including component selection, drafting using AutoCAD, etc.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make data-driven decisions
- Strong team builder and motivator with the ability to inspire a diverse team
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Ability to mentor and develop engineers while balancing project responsibilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams
