Pay Range: $130,000 to $155,000 Annually (dependent on experience/qualifications). Salary is
based on Long Beach, CA location, and will be adjusted for candidates in other
states if required.

Job Purpose: Under general direction of the Engineering Manager the Project Engineer acts as the Engineer of Record and is responsible for ensuring the engineering design and implementation of projects meet all regulatory and contractual requirements. This role involves being the official authority on the project’s engineering aspects, overseeing design work, and ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards. Working closely with the Project Manager, the PE will collaborate with various departments and stakeholders to ensure that the project is executed with technical excellence, within scope, schedule, and budget.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Leads the engineering design for the project, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
- Reviews designs, P&IDs, General Arrangement drawings, calculations, and engineering documents to ensure compliance with technical standards and project requirements
- Collaborates with clients, contractors, and internal teams to communicate project updates, address concerns, and manage expectations
- Establishes and maintains quality control measures throughout the design and construction phases providing oversight on design calculations, specifications, and drawings to confirm technical accuracy, ensuring all engineering deliverables meet company technical standards
- Monitors project engineering team tasks and deliverable schedules, communicating routinely with the project manager on any issues or risks to the project schedule, while working with the project manager to find solutions for issues to keep the project on schedule and budget
- Ensures project deliverables meet quality standards through inspections, testing, and quality control procedures, while participating and providing technical feedback during HAZOP reviews, ensuring project closes all open items found during HAZOP
- Identifies potential project risks, develops mitigation strategies, and proactively addresses issues
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records for all engineering decisions, design changes, approvals, and certifications
- Conducts site visits, and FATs to monitor construction/fabrication progress, identifies issues, and ensures compliance with safety regulations
- Works closely with the procurement and construction teams to resolve design-related issues during the procurement and construction phases
- Analyses technical challenges, identifies solutions, and implements corrective actions
- Prepares progress reports, technical documents, and project summaries for stakeholders
- Ability to travel as necessary, with the ability to obtain a Passport to travel outside the United States
- These duties are not meant to be all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical or a related engineering discipline is required
- 5-7 years of experience in engineering design, with a strong background in EPC projects (e.g., energy, infrastructure, biogas) - Prior experience as an Engineer of Record in an EPC environment is highly preferred
- Professional engineering certification (PE)
- Extensive knowledge of industry codes, standards, and regulations
- Strong experience in engineering design, calculations, and project execution.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities to address technical challenges and drive mutually beneficial solutions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in design software (HYSYS, Etap, AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, etc.)
- Well organized with a high attention to detail
- Knowledge of project management principles and construction practices
- Proficient with MS Office tools
- Proficient in relevant software tools for design, analysis, and project management
- Proven experience in commissioning plants
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to communicate with team members at all levels of an organization
