We are hiring an Accountant for one of our clients in Sacramento, CA.
Job Description:
Temporary Accountant Staff Duties Temporary Accountant staff have been brought into the Employee Benefits Office (EBO) to help address reconciliations with insurance carriers. Some of the discrepancies extend back to 2021. Staff will be trained by Employee Benefits Analyst Level 2 and Personnel Analysts on the discrepancy and carrier files and use of systems such as:
- COMPASS, our HRIS system, which is an SAP product
- Benefit Bridge, our online benefit enrollment system
- FileNet, an electronic document storage system
- Monarch, a file comparison and reporting system
- Microsoft Excel Then the Accountants will work to research and resolve discrepancies, making recommendations on approaches for specific cases.
- While working on the discrepancy files, the Accountants will document the process in a procedure for the Employee Benefits Office.
The duties are as follows:
- Research past payroll transactions, carrier payments, and invoices to determine monies owed or needing refund o For participants o For carriers
- Process payroll transactions based on research or present to staff for processing
- Set up self-pay accounts as needed
- Set up collection accounts as needed
- Coordinate with EBO staff, Department of Finance (DOF) staff, and payroll staff
- Lead and participate in reconciliation meetings with carriers and communicate research findings
- Draft procedures for ongoing reconciliations and make recommendations to Department of Personnel Services (DPS) and/or EBO management
- Recommend appropriate process changes and controls to mitigate issues discovered through the reconciliation process
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Skills Required:
- Experience with COMPASS, an HRIS system powered by SAP
- Experienced with Benefit Bridge, an online benefits enrollment system
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and financial reporting
- Strong background in accounting and auditing, with expertise in financial reconciliation and compliance.
Experience Required:
- Two years of experience in accounting, with a strong preference for auditing and account reconciliation.
- Skilled in verifying data accuracy by comparing records with original source documents and cross-checking information across multiple systems to ensure consistency and compliance
Education Required:
- Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor's Degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accountancy.
- Note: Possession of a valid license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from the State of California Board of Accountancy may substitute for the required bachelor’s degree
Work hours:
- 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Additional Information:
- The job is onsite, not hybrid, and does not allow working from home. We require a DOJ background check before they start.
