Summary

The Logistics and Facilities Manager for BioIVT Disease State Operations will manage the operations of the Detroit Logistics team and Facility operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides a high level of oversight and guidance to all logistics channels. Interface directly with distributors.
  • Ensure that all departments understand customer requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • This role will be responsible for logistics management functions throughout an ISO-certified CAP certified organization.
  • Will oversee inventory management, distribution & warehousing, and logistics.
  • Provides a high level of oversight and guidance to all logistics channels. Interface directly with distributors.
  • Create operational efficiencies, discover best practices, and identify programs that lead to increased customer satisfaction.
  • Negotiate with & audit shipping contracts (domestic and international).
  • Oversee coordination of optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, or frequency
  • Facilitate operational compliance with relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, service logs, or training or safety records.
  • Manage and lead change to ensure minimum disruption to core activities.
  • Identify areas for process improvements within logistics and facilities management and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment according to ISO and CAP requirements.
  • Biorepository Inventory Management
  • Facilitate monthly physical inventory counts and reporting.
  • Liaise with building management personnel.
  • Facilitate operational compliance with relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Cross functional communication with Site Management, Project Management, Order Management and Customer Service.
  • Ensure all lab and analytic equipment is appropriately serviced and functional through policy and procedure development and enforcement.
  • Check that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and following up on any deficiencies.
  • Oversee Biorepository Freezer Core Preventive and Scheduled Maintenance Schedule.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and energy efficiency to implement in the facility’s operations for cost savings and environmental stewardship.
  • Documentation management and review.
  • Management of Kit Production department

Requirements

  • Prior shipping & receiving experience required.
  • 2 years of previous supervisory experience (or a minimum 3 years working at BioIVT in a collaborative capacity)
  • Knowledge of shipping biological material internationally and within the US.
  • Knowledge of FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations for shipping biological materials.
  • Strong proficiency with Word and Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with an ERP system (inventory and order preparation software) a plus
  • Negotiation and vendor management experience
  • Familiarity with biotechnology, laboratory production, or biobanking is highly desirable
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required

  • Must be IATA (International Air Transport Association) certified to ship dangerous goods via aircraft (or become certified within 3 months of employment).
  • Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technical background and technical understanding, laboratory and / or medical experience a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Time management skills with the ability to effectively manage and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with both customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to be persistent yet professional when working with our sites.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Intermediate understanding of MS office, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze issues, evaluate potential solutions, and create and implement a plan.

  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for a maximum of 60 minutes.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Administrative – While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in professional office environment using standard office equipment. This position regularly requires large amounts of time to be spent using and viewing computer screens and equipment, which generally entails regular and repetitive motions.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee will be working in a laboratory and biorepository facility that require the proper use of personal protective equipment. Use computer equipment while accessioning specimen.
  • Contact with dry ice for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to work additional hours outside of the normal work shift to ensure departmental goals are met (evenings and weekends)
  • Contact with human biological specimens and sharps daily.
  • Corporate Health and Safety Program with Immunizations offered.

    A full-time Monday through Friday workweek with general business hours and flexibility to occasionally work additional hours as needed and approved by management. This position is in Detroit and the employee will be expected to be on site.
