Senior Network Administrator
Position Description
The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Biola’s network infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the security, reliability, and efficiency of network systems. This senior technician will teach and train younger technicians to ensure best practices are followed, and will also routinely manage network improvement projects.

The Senior Network Administrator is under the supervision of the Director of Network Operations and works in close cooperation with the rest of the IT department.
Educational Requirements
Relevant bachelor’s degree; candidates with experience in IT may also qualify
Combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education
5 years experience with network administration and operations
Work Requirements
Non-exempt (02), full-time – 40 hours/week, 12 months per year
This position requires personal attendance at Biola’s campus in La Mirada, California.
Able to stoop, bend, climb ladders, pull wire, kneel, and crawl to make repairs, adjust, and/or install equipment
Able to work on ladders, scaffolding, and other tall structures
Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed
Valid California driver’s license
Able to lift 50 pounds
Essential Duties
Plan, design, install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, and wireless LAN controllers.
Ensure availability, reliability, and recoverability of network systems, including campus LAN, remote building WAN and wireless WLAN
Ensure availability, reliability, and recoverability of related network services, such as bandwidth shaping tools, DHCP, DNS, and VPN
Manage all aspects of network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems
Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to end users and IT staff
Create and maintain documentation on network configurations, processes, and procedures
Manage routine backup processes to ensure data integrity and availability
Mentor and develop associate network administrators (full- and part-time)
Provide systems support and specialized training to the Tech Support staff as needed
Rotate as an emergency contact, responding to system and service outages
Document and update internal processes, procedures, and configurations
Ensure that any equipment managed by the NetOps team is updated in the asset management system whenever moved
Enhance expertise and demonstrate a desire to keep learning by attending occasional development opportunities including conferences, seminars, and online presentations
Maintain job-related equipment and tools
All other duties as assigned that the supervisor determines are appropriate
Required Skills/Qualifications
Experience with network theory, architectures, and best practices behind enterprise network design, and integration
Experience with Cisco network hardware, security features, software administration and implementation
Proficiency in network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS), network security, and various network management tools.
Experience with related network services, such as DHCP, DNS, and VPN
Able to perform business and functional analysis regarding requirements for network service improvements
Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience creating business and technical documentation for system and end-user communication
Able to lay out a project and provide basic project management
Able to use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality
Demonstrated aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills
Able to coordinate work involving both outside consultants and internal employees
Able to bring valuable ideas and creative thinking/problem solving up for discussion
Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe programs

Hiring Range: $33.77 - 52.96 per hour
