Objectives/Purpose
The Medical Support Specialist ensures donor eligibility, manages donor adverse events, reviews laboratory test results, and notifies donors of unsuitable test results.
Accountabilities
- Donor Eligibility (85%): Determine donor eligibility accurately and in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and manage donor reactions at the facility according to SOPs.
- Manage donor deferral; review test results and notify donors of unsuitable test results per applicable SOPs.
- Initiate and investigate Post Donation Information (PDI).
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs when needed.
Technical/Functional Expertise
- Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN or LVN) in the state where duties will be assigned.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification required.
- Fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Able to complete FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.

Education, Behavioural Competencies and Skills:
Essential: Graduate of a recognized educational program.
Desired: Bachelor's Degree, Minimum of two years in a clinical or hospital setting.
