Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This internship is anticipated to run from middle of May - August 2025 working an average of 40 hours a week. This role is based in Durham, NC with a five day per week onsite requirement. Relocation Assistance is not available for this position.
The Maintenance Intern supports the production maintenance group; assists in the repair and maintenance of production equipment, management of spare parts, and planning of maintenance activities. The intern will be heavily involved in the installation and startup of the new production line, Line 5, while also supporting existing lines. Additionally, the intern will contribute to the creation of PM (preventive maintenance) work plans and schedules.
- Assist in installation and startup activities for the new production line, Line 5
- Support equipment validation and qualification processes for Line 5
- Help develop and implement maintenance procedures
- Participate in preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment
- Assist in diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues
- Support spare parts inventory management, including for Line 5
- Assist in creating and updating maintenance procedures and documentation
- Create PM work plans and schedules
- Support maintenance scheduling and planning across all production lines
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on equipment reliability and performance
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
Education, Skills, & Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED is required and must be actively enrolled in an academic program/institution pursuing a degree.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering
- Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices) in a medical device setting is preferred
- Familiarity with maintenance management systems and inventory control software is beneficial
- Understanding of PM principles and scheduling techniques is desirable
- Demonstrated interest in manufacturing processes and equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with hand tools and basic diagnostic equipment
- Experience with CAD software or PLC programming is a plus
- Exposure to maintenance planning software or methodologies is beneficial
