Job Summary
BioMérieux is a global leader in developing, manufacturing, marketing, and supporting FDA-cleared molecular diagnostics for infectious disease. These internships offer motivated college or high school students (must be at least 18 years of age) an opportunity to contribute to an early-stage research or product development project and to be immersed in a highly productive and collaborative biotechnology environment. Under the close supervision of a mentorship team, interns may participate in any or all of the following activities, depending on the specific project assigned: (1) perform general laboratory duties; (2) perform wet lab molecular biology work; (3) assist in planning and setup activities for research studies; (4) participate in data analysis and presentation; (5) co-develop and test new research productivity tools; and (6) maintain accurate records of work performed, in accordance with BioMérieux Quality Management System. Internships are considered non-exempt positions; full- and part-time positions will be considered.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties may include molecular biology work in the laboratory, general laboratory support activities, study planning, data analysis, presentation of results, and accurate and thorough recordkeeping. Interns will:
1. Listen actively while receiving instruction, in order to quickly master assigned duties
2. Be present and engaged during scheduled work hours
3. Ask questions when any aspect of assigned work is unclear
4. Be curious and persistent when solving problems
5. Behave professionally while representing BioMérieux
6. Participate in research team meetings
7. Perform assigned duties with a conscientious and detail-oriented approach
8. Prepare preliminary analyses of experimental data for review with mentor
9. Assist mentor in preparing presentations of data and conclusions
10. Perform and document all work in compliance with BioMérieux Quality Management System.
Supplemental Data
• Works full-time onsite in Salt Lake City.
Training and Education
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a strong interest in biotechnology. Currently enrolled undergraduate students pursuing a biotechnology-related bachelor’s degree are preferred.
Experience
Some previous work experience in any area is preferred.
Experience in a life sciences laboratory or in clinical research is a plus, but is not required.
