The Mechanical Drafter participates in modeling and detailing projects of moderate complexity. Creates detailed drawings, intermediate 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using 3D CAD Software tools (SolidWorks). 

This drafter works within a project team—under the leadership of a more experienced individual (e.g. engineers, technicians and/or project managers).  

This drafter is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned in order to meet the goals of the project, the department and the company.  

Job Responsibilities 

  • Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System. 

  • Create accurate moderately-complex 3D models and assemblies according to project specific inputs and requirements using SolidWorks. 

  • Create manufacturing drawings of assemblies and models including GD&T and BOM information. 

  • Interpreting low complexity 2D drawings and layouts for migration into a 3D environment. 

  • Utilizes engineering concepts, company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs, and other sources, e.g. part catalogs, to find additional data to assist in a variety of technical tasks. 

  • Communicate with internal customers and team members regarding project scope, change requests and milestone completions. 

  • Works effectively in a cross-functional environment offering any assistance necessary to complete the end product.  

  • Produces a range of engineering, cable and harness, or mechanical drawings for mechanical equipment under the guidance of senior staff and management.  

  • Complete assignments on time and on schedule. 

  • Maintains sets of drawings, drawing changes, and reports for projects as assigned. 

  • Make decisions concerning personal time management and task prioritization to deliver quality service.  

  • Must be comfortable receiving feedback and making adjustments to projects in real time. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Associates Degree required
  • Minimum two years of drafting experience or drafting-related role, including performance consistent with said experience.   

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and work effectively in a team environment to resolve them while considering the impact on the rest of the company.  

  • Ability to respond in a flexible manner and to reprioritize work as the situation demands.  

  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  

  • Ability to create moderately complex technical drawings under the direction of Engineers and senior drafters. 

  • Knowledge of the function and operation of SolidWorks. 

  • Understanding of (GD&T) nomenclature and conventional symbols of structural, mechanical and engineering drawings and how to incorporate in drawings.  

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other drafters as well as other department personnel.   

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.  

  • Ability to effectively manage time and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to receive feedback and constructive criticism.  

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to remain in stationary position, often standing, for prolonged periods. 
  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs, ladders, ramps, and the like. 
  • Ability to wear PPE correctly most of the day. 
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery. 
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 50 pounds in all directions.
