The Controller is a leader in the finance and accounting organization, with oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, financial analysis, banking, tax and treasury. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
This role will lead the production of period financials, management reporting, manage audits and compliance requirements, oversee bank accounts, act as Finance lead in the selection and enhancement of applicable ERPs, and establish financial practices and policies for a public-private partnership in the domestic bioindustrial manufacturing ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance leader who can adapt and anticipate the evolving needs of a growing organization, working cross-functionally to drive financial strategy and operational excellence.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
BioMADE offers flexible (hybrid) work options for some positions based on business roles and needs. For flexible (hybrid) positions, employees are expected to work in the office 3 days per week and may work remotely from a home office 2 days per week; Tuesdays and Thursdays are required in-office days.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage and lead all aspects of the accounting operations, period close activities, and financial reporting functions, including establishment and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure completeness, accuracy, and sufficient details of financial data are captured systematically to meet the needs of timely management and external reporting, including government fund accounting.
- Take lead in system implementation and enhancements that impact the Record to Report cycle across critical business processes including Order to Cash and Procure to Pay.
- Mentor and develop professional capabilities within the accounting operations, revenue accounting and general ledger team to ensure adequate and transparent support to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with Grant Accounting and FP&A functions to develop periodic and ad hoc management and external reporting.
- Establish open channel of communication and manage relationship with internal stakeholders across different offices
- Spearhead coordination with professional service firms in ownership of external audits and tax filing requirements.
- Take part in other ad hoc strategic and operational initiatives as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance leader who can adapt and anticipate the evolving needs of a growing organization, working cross-functionally to drive financial strategy and operational excellence, including selection, implementation, and enhancement of mid-tier or higher ERPs.
- Must possess 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a growing organization with subsidiaries, with at least 3 years in accounting and finance leadership experience overseeing multiple functions (complex revenue structure, AR, AP, multi-state payroll, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA credential and/or public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to distill complex analyses into structured outputs and present to all levels of management and external parties required.
- Must possess influencing and strong negotiations skills, and experience leading mid-sized teams.
- Energetic, hands-on, resourceful self-starter who can partner with all levels and functions of the organization and takes a consultative and collaborative approach for the purpose of getting to a common goal.
- Strong analytical skills, coupled with work ethic and sound judgement, and ability to work independently required.
- Must be results and detailed-oriented with a keen interest in process improvements.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple work streams while remaining calm and effective under pressure.
- Must possess excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Excel.
- Experience working with NetSuite or similar ERP system required.
