We are seeking a dedicated Technical Associate I to provide daily husbandry and care to laboratory animals, primarily rodents, in compliance with all regulatory standards. The candidate will support the operational maintenance of the vivarium and ensure the health and well-being of animals through proper care and clinical observations. This position requires weekend and holiday rotations and is a 6-month contract.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled husbandry and clinical observations of laboratory animals (primarily rodents)
- Conduct basic veterinary care and treatments as needed
- Execute cage wash operations and maintain proper hygiene standards
- Accurately document facility records and maintain compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Manage and track animal inventory and procurement of supplies for the facility
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards outlined in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
- Maintain and promote a clean, safe, and efficient working environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to ensure close collaboration with laboratory personnel
- Strong commitment to providing humane, consistent, and quality animal care
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team-based environment
- High level of personal accountability, organization, and attention to detail
- Willingness to participate in professional development and continuous learning
- Ability to work in a standing position for prolonged periods while performing repetitive tasks
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs. and moving heavy objects as needed
- Available to work on a rotating weekend and holiday schedule
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience handling animals and performing cage operations, preferably rodents
- GED/High School Diploma required; 2- or 4-year degree in animal science or related field preferred
- ALAT AALAS Technician Certification preferred, but not required
- CDA and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Strong understanding of SOPs and laboratory animal care techniques
- Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards (preferred)
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- Rotating weekends (every 3rd weekend) with overtime (OT)
- Rotating holidays
