Scientist II, Assay Development

Status : Contract to hire

Comp : $60 / hr - $67 / hr

Key Responsibilities

The following outlines the primary expectations for this role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

  • Develop insights into how proprietary technology interacts with biological variables to enhance biomarker detection and quantification.
  • Generate and test innovative approaches to improve assay sensitivity and performance.
  • Design and optimize assay formulation buffers for robust results.
  • Identify and address potential matrix effects to ensure assay accuracy.
  • Develop alternative methodologies to validate assay performance.
  • Design and implement control and calibration materials for exosome-based assays.
  • Contribute to technical planning for regulatory documentation and submissions.
  • Solve interdisciplinary technical challenges using innovative and practical solutions.
  • Utilize analytical and statistical methods to interpret experimental results.
  • Proactively troubleshoot workflows and experiments, ensuring clear ownership of outcomes and strategic direction.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and compliant research documentation in electronic systems.
  • Communicate findings effectively in written reports and verbal presentations within team meetings.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams across departments to achieve project goals.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities adhere to safety protocols and best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior scientists, engineers, and research associates as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment by demonstrating leadership and integrity.
  • Exercise independent judgment in developing and refining methodologies, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
  • Identify and implement scientific innovations that drive productivity and efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusivity, transparency, and teamwork.

Travel & Confidentiality

  • Occasional travel, up to 5%, may be required.
  • This position will handle confidential information that must be safeguarded.
  • Experience, Education, and Skills Required

    Candidates must meet the following qualifications :

  • A master’s degree with at least 8 years, or a Ph.D. with at least 3 years of experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of immunoassay principles and development.
  • Experience working with assay technologies on microscope systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency in buffers, protein solubility, and a range of protein purification and detection techniques (e.g., ELISA, Western Blot, chromatography, immunoprecipitation, immunocytochemistry, enzyme assays).
  • Understanding of protein interactions, antigen-antibody binding kinetics, and assay validation strategies.
  • Experience with IVD assay development from concept through regulatory approval.
  • Ability to develop appropriate controls and calibrators for assays.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with a self-motivated approach.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis tools (e.g., GraphPad Prism) for data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and concise reporting of research findings.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and hands-on work environment.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and technical expertise, with an ability to develop innovative solutions.
  • Understanding of Six Sigma principles and best laboratory practices.
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and willingness to take on diverse responsibilities.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to handle constructive feedback, collaborate with others, and maintain a positive and flexible attitude.
  • Capable of working efficiently under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards.
