We are looking to hire a Converting Operations Excellence Manager in our Menominee, MI paper mill to play a significant role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our organization’s processes. This individual will be responsible for all performance results in all aspects of the converting department including hourly and salaried individuals. It will be expected that this individual will assist in creating a culture of accountability at the site. This individual will develop systems and standards and is accountable for continuous improvement of business operations with the utmost priority on safety and quality; drive operator development, performance improvement and accountability; manage and develop staff; manage successful safety performance for all employees. Additionally, the Converting OPEx Manager grows and maintains production volumes to support the organization and customer needs, develops and implements strategies to improve mill performance, and supports the core critical initiatives of: Operational Excellence Improvement, New Product Development, Procurement Savings, and Optimizing Talent Strategy. This highly visible role in BSP will report directly to the Mill Manager and play a key role in building a high-performance environment.

Converting OPEx Manager Job Duties:
- Develop and implement operational excellence strategies, standards, and road maps in alignment with organizational goals, ensuring integration with business processes and systems.
- Implementing and growing the Management Systems mill wide, with an initial focus in the converting department.
- Facilitates the career growth of subordinates, making them more effective leaders and managers.
- Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
- Creates a culture of accountability ensuring that all converting employees understand, are trained in, and follow the standards & policies and procedures of the site.
- Design and execute training programs for staff at all levels on operational excellence principles, tools, and techniques to build an organizational culture of continuous improvement.
- Lead and facilitate process improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness throughout the site.
- Responsible for sponsoring and leading projects, efficient application of capital spending that supports process improvement initiatives. Plans for organizational change initiatives and developments. Monitors, and coordinates internal and external resources in support of projects.
- Development of, and execution of project pipeline delivering financial results primarily in throughput, waste reduction, and raw materials.
- Collaborate with mill teams and departments to identify process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for cost reduction, proposing and executing innovative solutions to address these issues.
- Work with Mill Manager to establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the progress and impact of operational excellence initiatives, adjusting strategies as necessary.
- Facilitate the adoption of best practices in project management and process optimization, ensuring consistency and standardization where appropriate.
- Oversee the documentation and updating of processes and procedures to ensure they reflect current best practices and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maturing the mill’s culture of continuous improvement (visual management, KPI’s, 5S, etc.)
- Improve the team’s problem-solving capability.
- Responsible for the continuous improvement of safety performance in the converting department, including department hourly employees, visitors and contractors.
- Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards. Including but not limited to: SQF Qualification, GMP, Food Defense, HACCP, and Food Safety.
- Visit customers as needed: support their operations, discuss needs, and resolve issues.
Experience/Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree, with common majors including Business Administration, Engineering, or Operations Management or equivalent years of experience performing the job is required.
- A minimum of 5 years in the Paper Industry is required
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience is required. Paper Machine Superintendent, or Operations Manager preferred.
- A track record of proven performance/consistently meeting objectives, leading and supporting safety programs is a must.
- Proven ability in managing others as well as influencing and building partnerships;
- Proven track record of solving problems to root cause and developing standards to eliminate reoccurrence.
- Ability to lead teams through change.
- Ability to work independently and with teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows programs, MiniTab, or equivalent.
- Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma (Green, Black, or Master Black Belt) and Project Management Professional (PMP) are preferred.
