How You Will Achieve More At Intellia

The Director, Patient Services will lead the development and implementation of patient support programs specifically designed for the complexities of gene editing therapies. This pivotal role will focus on building a comprehensive patient services platform from the ground up, preparing for the unique access, long term follow-up, and educational needs associated with launching a novel gene editing therapy. Reporting to the VP, Market Access & Patient Services, this role will work closely with cross-functional teams to design a patient-centric program that enhances accessibility (including financial support), educates patients and families on these programs, and supports the treatment journey. The position level will be determined based on relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Launch Readiness:Design, implement, and scale patient support services tailored to the unique needs of gene editing therapy, including pre-treatment education, financial support, logistics, and long-term follow-up care.
  • Operational Leadership:Build and lead a high-performing team (3rd party Hub) to deliver patient services, including patient intake, case management, and reimbursement support. Oversee the development of SOPs, best practices, and service delivery standards to ensure a positive provider and patient experience.
  • Financial Assistance Programs:Develop and oversee patient financial assistance programs, including insurance coverage support, co-pay assistance, and travel programs. Work to reduce financial barriers and improve access to life-changing gene therapies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration for Launch Success:Partner with Commercial, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Compliance, and Legal teams to ensure alignment and readiness for the therapy launch. Work with Clinical Development & Patient Advocacy to understand key patient journey insights and integrate them into program design.
  • Stakeholder and Provider Engagement:Establish relationships with healthcare providers, patient organizations, and payers to educate and support them in delivering gene editing therapy.
  • Patient Advocacy and Support:Serve as the patient’s voice within the organization, ensuring our programs address the critical and often complex needs of patients and families undergoing gene editing therapy. Advocate for a transparent, empathetic approach to patient support that reflects our commitment to safety, quality, and compassionate care.
  • Patient Education and Outreach:Develop and implement educational materials, digital resources, and outreach initiatives that provide patients and caregivers with accurate information about patient support and assistance programs.
  • Compliance and Data Privacy:Ensure that all patient support programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including data privacy, informed consent, and patient confidentiality.
  • Data & Metrics Management:Utilize data analytics to measure the success of patient services programs. Report key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership, ensuring the continuous improvement of patient services offerings.


About You

  • Demonstrated experience in launching and scaling patient support programs for new and complex therapies.
  • Deep understanding of the unique patient and provider education needs for gene editing therapy, including safety, logistics, and long-term support.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams to deliver compassionate, patient-centered support.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build partnerships across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • A strategic, solution-oriented thinker with strong analytical skills and a patient-first mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with a commitment to addressing the unique challenges of gene editing therapies. Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6-8 years of experience in patient services or a related role within the biopharmaceutical industry, with a strong preference for experience in gene or cell therapy, or rare genetic diseases.
