POSTED ON 2/21/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/22/2025
The Program

Maze Therapeutics offers a dynamic 9-week summer internship program designed to provide hands-on experience and professional growth opportunities. You will take ownership of your own projects, gaining practical insights and learning from Maze employees. You will participate in several events and trainings with your fellow interns, including professional development workshops and discussions with Maze executive leaders. The program culminates with a company-wide presentation, where you’ll share your work and celebrate your achievements. This immersive experience will allow you to contribute to innovative research, grow professionally, and explore career paths within the biotechnology industry.

The Position

The Functional Genomics group at Maze is seeking a Summer Intern to support our efforts in understanding genetic variants that drive disease. You’ll focus on developing and executing cell-based assays to explore the function of genetic variants related to Maze’s therapeutic targets. Throughout the internship, you’ll collaborate with biologists, data scientists, and human geneticists while receiving mentorship from scientists across the company.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in assay development, learn about precision medicine, and contribute to advancing new therapies for patients.

The Position

  • Develop cell-based assays to analyze protein levels, gene expression, cellular phenotypes, and target activity to better understand the mechanism of action (MoA) of therapeutic targets.
  • Optimize, troubleshoot, and execute semi-automated processes to support assay development.
  • Document your work by recording experimental designs, observations, and results in electronic lab notebooks and databases.
  • Summarize and present your findings in group and department meetings, contributing to scientific discussions.

What We’re Looking For

  • A rising junior or recent graduate from a four-year college or university, with a background and strong interest in biology or related life sciences fields.
  • Completed at least two semesters of college-level biology coursework with a laboratory component.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays.
  • Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • A curious mindset and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be on-site at Maze’s South San Francisco office five days a week.

About Maze Therapeutics

Maze Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company harnessing the power of human genetics to develop novel, small molecule precision medicines for patients living with renal, cardiovascular and related metabolic diseases, including obesity. The company is advancing a pipeline using its Compass platform, which allows it to identify and characterize genetic variants in disease and then link those variants to the biological pathways that drive disease in specific patient groups through a process it refers to as variant functionalization. The company’s pipeline is led by two wholly owned lead programs, MZE829 and MZE782, each of which represents a novel precision medicine-based approach for chronic kidney disease. Maze is based in South San Francisco.
