The Process Operator ensures production of a quality yeast extract product by following established procedures and performs various sanitation duties. This requires a wide range of knowledge and skills, many of which can be learned on the job. The Process Operator reports directly to the Supervisor. He may also receive direction from Superintendent or other management personnel as required.

The production of yeast extract products requires flexibility on the part of all personnel as operations change depending upon the needs of the customer. This will require a Process Operator to train and work in other departments on a periodic basis in order to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.

What You’ll Do As a Process Operator
The production of yeast extract products requires flexibility on the part of all personnel as operations change depending upon the needs of the customer. This will require a Process Operator to train and work in other departments on a periodic basis in order to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.
- Follow established process and CIP procedures, make adjustments on the processes or processing equipment, manually or through a central processing computer.
- Follow production schedule.
- Perform sanitation on equipment, infrastructure, grounds, and other assigned areas.
- Record and maintain accurate written and electronic information for autolysis, separation, filtration, concentration and CIP’s, or any other document required by company to regulate parameters, procedures and equipment through basic analysis, simple calculations and computer controls.
- Understand and follow established safety, GMP, food safety, and other rules of the plant as well as general company policies.
- Responsible for reading and understanding material safety data for chemicals or ingredients used in the process.
- Follow all procedures/precautions when adding or working around chemicals or ingredients.
- Notify Supervisor of equipment failures and when major process problems or variations in the process are detected.
- Communicate and interact with other employees and management personnel in a respectful and effective manner.
- Learn all equipment in Process. Cover shifts as scheduled.
- Train and work in other departments in the facility as needed. This may include cleaning and filling in for various absences throughout the facility. Work is assigned depending upon operational needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or 3 years minimum or experience in similar position.
- Ability to follow instructions, learn and ask questions.
- Mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills.
- Good people skills.
- Ability to manage time and plan ahead.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Perform simple mathematical analysis using the units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Solve standardized problems with few or no variables. Use learned experience to solve more detailed and complex problems.
- Ability to be forklift certified required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes preferred.
