What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquaculture Technician position at Biota Aquariums LLC?
- Perform basic water quality sampling.
- Maintain and harvest plankton cultures.
- Perform feedings at scheduled intervals.
- Perform harvesting, sorting, and packing of fish to be shipped.
- Assist in the unpacking, acclimating and conditioning of incoming marine life.
- Perform basic animal care, which includes feeding, treatments, and observations.
- Record essential data and perform some data analysis.
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of tanks and equipment used in daily operations, as needed.
- Must work well with others in a well-mannered fashion.
- Perform other job-related tasks, even outside of standard working hours, to ensure the successful operation of the company.
- Assist in cleanliness of fish holding facilities. Includes checking and changing filters, draining and cleaning tanks, wiping down equipment and floors.
- Data entry, stocktake and inventory
**MARGINAL FUNCTIONS of the job:
- Perform related duties as required.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Job involves frequent bending, stooping, ducking, pushing, pulling, and lifting
Up to 50 lbs. Very infrequent sitting.
Work is performed in a warehouse environment (in water, in tanks) 90-99% of
the time.
Outdoor work/maintenance is required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience working in marine environment with pumps, plumbing, tanks, and water systems preferred.
- Experience with fish/invertebrate husbandry is a plus.
- Experience culturing phytoplankton and/or zooplankton is a plus.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in biology or aquaculture is a plus.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekend work.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
