What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Scientist Upstream Process Development position at BioTalent?
BioTalent is currently searching for a Senior Scientist in Upstream Process Development to join a growing Biotech out in Worcester County Massachusetts.
Travel Requirement:
- Must be willing to travel (>25%).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead planning, designing, and execution of experiments to optimize upstream processes, including analyzing and documenting data.
- Provide technical leadership in project innovation, overseeing bioreactor operations, monitoring processes for reliability, and troubleshooting equipment as needed.
- Collaborate with overseas colleagues on multiple projects, requiring international travel.
- Interpret experimental data independently, create reports, and present findings.
- Maintain awareness of scientific advancements and evaluate new technologies for potential application.
- Coach and mentor junior staff to achieve high performance in process development activities.
- Manage resource planning and project logistics.
- Ensure compliance with safe laboratory practices and promote a positive work environment.
Qualifications:
- Academic background: Ph.D., Master’s, or Bachelor’s in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical/Biochemical Engineering, or related fields.
- Industry experience working on Upstream Process Development projects for Biopharmaceutical production.
- Expertise in mammalian cell culture/fermentation, process development, scale-up, and tech transfer in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting.
- Proficiency in cGMP environments and design-of-experiment methods.
- Strong skills in organization, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Familiarity with statistical DOE software (e.g., JMP, Minitab, Design Expert) and MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualification:
- Bilingual proficiency in Mandarin Chinese would be highly desirable.
