Position Description
The speech-language pathologist supports the development of students’ speech and language skills within the school setting
Provides direct and consultative speech therapy to students including assessment, developing goals, individualized education plans (IEP), program planning and implementation, documentation, and communication with students, families, and other staff members.
- Provides a therapeutic program to meet students’ individual speech and language needs.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring students when there are suspected or identified speech and/or language impairments.
- Conducts comprehensive evaluations of students’ including speech, voice, language, and fluency for evaluation and IEP meetings and makes recommendations.
- Completes written reports for IEP meetings.
- Works collaboratively to provide comprehensive speech therapy services to students.
- Serves as a member of a student’s IEP team.
- Knowledge and skills in various methods of assessment to support eligibility decision-making, intervention plan development, and progress monitoring of students’ skills and functional abilities.
- Knowledge and skills in various methods of data collection to support program review and goal setting.
- Consultation and collaboration skills to be a supportive resource on a variety of topics including strategies, interventions and supports that can be provided to students within and outside of the classroom setting to develop students’ communication skills.
- Communication with students, parents, teachers, other personnel, and outside agencies for the purpose of evaluation and plan development.
- Experience providing individual, small group, and classroom interventions.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and child development.
- Maintains thorough records for students on caseload.
- Caseload: EC and middle school; 36-48 students between the two buildings
- IL PEL - SLP License
- Previous school-based experience
