What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Custom Home Building Estimator/Purchaser position at Birch Home Builders?
Birch Home Builders is looking for a skilled Estimator to provide accurate and timely estimates for all projects. You will estimate projects from beginning to end, taking into account all project related costs. The estimator will provide the best possible solution to maximize profit and minimize costs for our clients.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years experience in either construction or purchasing for a residential builder.
- Energetic, organized and detail oriented.
- Exceptional computing skills and be able to learn new software
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Effective interpersonal skills to ensure productive working environment amongst own team, clients and trade partners
- Solid knowledge of SC residential building practices.
- Full understanding of building materials from foundation to finish
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Field construction experience a plus.
Position requires a passionate and effective individual who can multitask, meet deadlines and enjoys details. They are responsible for pre-construction activities and supporting the overall financial outcome of the custom homes we build. The ideal candidate will have significant purchasing experience in residential construction.
Jod Responsibilities
Cost Estimation:
- Analyze architectural plans, specifications, and project cost to determine the scope of work and materials needed.
- Collaborate with the project team to identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options without compromising quality.
- Update and maintain cost database to facilitate accurate and efficient estimating.
Vendor and Supplier Management:
- Source and evaluate potential vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers based on quality, price, and reliability.
- Negotiate favorable pricing and contract terms with vendors and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to the construction site.
Budget Management:
- Work closely with clients, architects, and contractors to establish realistic project budgets.
- Monitor project expenditures and compare them to the estimated costs, identifying and addressing any budget variances.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Provide regular updates to owners on cost-related matters, highlighting any significant changes or risks.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
