Job Summary:
We are seeking a Fleet Field Technician to install, maintain, and repair vehicle-based
technology systems, including GPS tracking, telematics, dash cameras, and fleet
communication devices. This role requires on-site fieldwork, troubleshooting hardware and
software issues, and ensuring seamless system functionality. Candidates must be tech-savvy,
detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in fleet environments. Strong
communication skills are essential for coordinating with clients and internal teams. Experience
with low-voltage wiring, networking, or automotive electronics is preferred. Full-time travel
is required, along with the ability to work independently or as part of a team on multi-site
projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Install & Configure Fleet Technology – Set up GPS tracking, telematics, dash
cameras, and fleet communication systems in commercial vehicles, ensuring proper
wiring, mounting, and functionality.
- Troubleshoot & Repair Systems – Diagnose and resolve hardware and software
issues, replacing components and updating firmware as needed to maintain system
performance.
- Perform Routine Maintenance & Inspections – Conduct scheduled checks on
installed systems to ensure reliability, prevent failures, and proactively address potential
issues.
- Document Work & Communicate with Clients – Maintain accurate records of
installations, service calls, and troubleshooting steps while providing clear updates to
clients and internal teams.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Full-Time Travel Required – Must be willing to travel extensively for on-site fleet
installations and service calls.
- Technical Proficiency – Experience with installing and troubleshooting GPS tracking,
telematics, dash cameras, and fleet communication systems.
- Low-Voltage & Wiring Knowledge – Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems,
12V/24V wiring, and proper cable management techniques.
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting – Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and
software issues efficiently in field environments.
- Basic Networking & Software Skills – Understanding of network configurations,
firmware updates, and mobile app-based system integration.
- Attention to Detail – Strong ability to follow schematics, installation guides, and safety
protocols for high-quality workmanship.
- Customer Service & Communication – Clear and professional interaction with clients,
fleet managers, and internal teams to provide updates and reports.
- Self-Sufficiency & Time Management – Ability to work independently, manage service
calls efficiently, and prioritize tasks based on urgency.
- Valid Driver’s License & Reliable Transportation – Willingness to travel locally and
nationally for on-site installations and service calls.
Preferred:
- Bilingual (English & Spanish preferred) – Ability to communicate effectively with
diverse teams, clients, and technicians in both languages.
- Aerial Lift Certification – Ability to operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, or bucket trucks for
installations on large fleet vehicles or elevated mounting points.
- Experience with IDFs (Intermediate Distribution Frames) – Familiarity with setting up
and managing IDFs for fleet management systems, including proper cable routing and
patch panel connections.
- Network Cabinet Termination – Skilled in terminating, organizing, and labeling network
cables within IDF/network cabinets to ensure clean and efficient setups for fleet
technology integrations.
