THE OPPORTUNITIES : Senior Technical Designer (Contract)
REPORTS TO : Technical Design Manager
LOCATION : LA - Hybrid
Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports hybrid work for eligible roles. These roles are hybrid, 3-4 days in office. These roles are not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Birdy Grey is looking for a Technical Designer with experience in women's dresses and soft wovens experience to join our Product Development team. This role will require working in our DTLA studio, with some flexibility for remote.
The Senior Technical Designer will demonstrate expertise and knowledge in fitting, apparel production concepts, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have proven success in an Apparel / Garment construction and Manufacturing environment with a specific focus on women's dresses and separates. The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for a cross-functional position that interacts with both the creative and executive parts of the business. This role collaborates with the Technical Designers, Product Development team, and Production team and reports to the Manager of Technical Design.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding offit in soft woven experience and dress experience desired, including patterns, construction techniques, sample evaluation, material assessment, workmanship, functionality, and production feasibility
- Strive to enhance fit and quality by analyzing customer feedback, sales input, and staying informed about market competition
- Lead and monitor the fit process for assigned styles, ensuring the desired fit is achieved, while maintaining close collaboration with the Design and Product Development teams
- Ability to successfully manage and communicate with overseas vendors, displaying strong communication skills to proactively resolve issues
- Solid fitting experience with body forms and understanding of the importance of standard fit for consistent fit quality
- Proficient in understanding the relationship between body form fitting and fit model fitting, with the ability to accurately calibrate visual assessments
- Establish appropriate initial garment specifications in a proto tech pack, while also organizing and leading fittings with garment measurements and proactive review of potential fit issues in advance
- Actively contributes as a team player, working closely with other team members to effectively manage the overall workload related to construction, fit, approvals, comments, timelines, and other relevant tasks
- Accountable for efficient deadline management and effective communication of any encountered issues
