The role
To help support our rapid growth, we are seeking an Accounting Associate for our corporate office in Indianapolis, Indiana. The primary responsibilities will include month-end close and monthly/quarterly reimbursement submission to lenders. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Accounting.
What you will do
- Full-cycle accounting including, but not limited to:
o Lender/self-managed escrow analysis
o Prepaid/accrued expense analysis
o Balance Sheet audit and adjusting/reclass journal entries
o Bank reconciliation for operating/savings/owner accounts
o Management fee calculation and invoicing
o General Ledger and Income Statement review and adjusting/reclass journal entries
o Maintain fixed asset schedules and correlating journal entries
o Monthly surplus cash calculation and analysis
o Monthly/quarterly reimbursement submission to lenders
o Quarterly/annual financial reporting to lenders
o Assist senior-level staff to prepare transactions including refinances, sales, and acquisitions
o Work with external audit firms to meet year-end audit deadline
o Mentor junior-level staff
o Cross-departmental collaboration with property management, asset management, and development/construction
Conduct all business in accordance with company policies and procedures, Fair Housing, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and all other laws pertaining to apartments
What you will need
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related required; or equivalent years of experience in related field General accounting
- General accounting/bookkeeping
- Ability to provide and receive critical feedback
- Experience with Microsoft Office required, especially Excel
- Ability to efficiently use email, phone, fax, scan, mail, etc.
- Willing to work overtime to meet deadlines (month-end close week)
- Ability to complete other task as assigned by management

- Strong attention to detail is required

- Prior experience with bookkeeping duties required

- Travel will be very limited
- Sensitivity to confidential matters and information is required
- Ability to multi-task and meet changing deadlines
- Real estate background and an understanding of loan documents is a plus
