JOB DESCRIPTION:
To perform skilled and manual work functions related to the maintenance and operation of high quality, safe, and welcoming district athletic fields.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform athletic and practice fields grounds maintenance including mowing, aerifying, top dressing, seeding, sodding, trimming, field painting, irrigation and turf care, fertilizing; spray chemicals including insecticides, herbicides, soil conditioners and related chemicals; follow proper safety precautions.
- Prepare infield maintenance and repair work of baseball/softball fields including, watering infields, and repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes and transition areas of infield and outfield.
- Performing tilling, rolling and fertilizing soil; construct new planting areas and maintain high traffic wear areas on athletic fields.
- Sets up game and practice fields for special events; performs painting, game day field preparation, and field equipment placement as appropriate.
- Operate or drive a variety of specialized equipment utilized in assigned projects including tractors, lawn mowers, power and hand tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, edgers and related equipment
- Perform maintenance of athletic areas and buildings, such as picking up paper and other debris, sweeping entrances and ensuring safe athletic competition and practice grounds and facilities.
- Maintains athletic fields’ irrigation systems, to include sprinkler heads, valves and controllers.
- Maintains inventories of turf products and supplies, to include fertilizers, pesticides, paint and tools for athletic events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or designated supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, practices and equipment used in athletic field maintenance.
- Knowledge of athletic field painting turf preparation methods, procedures and techniques.
- Attention to detail.
- Three or more years of direct or related experience is preferred.
