JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform master journey-level work in the installation, repair, remodel and maintenance of manual and automated locks. The Locksmith will lock systems and security devices, computerized access control systems, door openers, closers, and hardware.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install, repair and maintain commercial lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric door, windows, lockers and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities
- Produce and/or modify hardware for locks
- Make new keys; replace broken or lost keys
- Design and maintain master key system including modifying and implementing security policies and procedures
- Maintain preventative maintenance program
- Clean, maintain, adjust, and calibrate and service equipment used in the performance of duties
- Monitor work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code Requirements and reports back to supervisor
- Assist in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction
- Maintain appropriate service and repair records
- Research, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies
- Respond to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
- May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area
- Assist and serve as back up to other facilities employees
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate, supplemented by completion of an apprenticeship program or related military occupational specialties (MOS).
- Four years as a journey-level locksmith in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting
- SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.
