(MMSB)-Meter Setter I

General Responsibilities :

Responsible for replacing all 5 / 8” through 1” cold water meters. Maintain the unaccounted loss of water down by changing meters that have reached the end of their service life.

Essential Job Functions :

• Install, disconnect, remove and reconnect water meters used to record customer consumption for billing
• Communicate with customers verbally or by written notice of service interruptions for meter maintenance
• Record meter and installation data on service orders or another form of communication
• Clean out meter boxes and vaults
• Correctly install meter boxes when necessary
• Perform various tasks utilizing tools such as pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, shovels, hammers, sledgehammers, stopcock keys, and valve keys
• Operate drilling and tapping machines and make taps on pressurized mains Tap sizes range from ¾” to ” Tie in corporation cock and copper and connect to meter yoke or copper setter
• Diagnose and repair leaks inside the meter box
• Operate main valves, tapping valves, and stopcocks
• Load and unload meters / " through ” on ¾ and one-ton trucks
• Locate, uncover and clean around meter boxes and vaults
• Set, raise, lower, and replace meter boxes
• Excavate and remove abandoned meter boxes using a sledgehammer, clay spade or compressed air-powered jackhammer and fill the resulting hole with proper backfill
• Operate the assigned vehicle, keep it clean and report all mechanical problems Maintain a valid driver's license
• Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
• Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education :

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications

Valid Driver’s License requiredADEM Grade 1 Certification preferred

Experience :

Two (2) years of related experience, including meter installation and repairs required.

Working Environment :

Loud noise; work indoors and outdoors, exposed to extreme hot / cold / wet weather conditions

Work in a field setting in pits up to 10 feet deep. Confined spaces, including vaults up to 11 feet by 13 feet by 9 feet
