What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Coordinator position at Birth Tissue Donor Services?
Birth Tissue Donor Services (BTDS) strives to be the preferred-choice partner for birth tissue donation and to provide exceptional service to our hospitals, physicians, and expectant parents. The generosity of these donors enables breakthrough medical applications that can restore vision and heal burns or wounds.
We aim to hire dedicated and dependable team members with an exceptional work ethic, integrity, and a shared passion for our mission. We are currently seeking one full-time Recovery Coordinator (RC) to support our established donation programs in Hastings, NE.
The primary role of this Recovery Coordinator (RC) is to service Grand Island Regional Hospital out of our local office in Hastings. This RC also steps in to assist when other RCs are out or unavailable and when assistance is needed to handle case overflows. An RC handles all assigned tasks related to the birth tissue acquisition process and services their hospital per the labor and delivery schedule.
BTDS follows all hospital policies, regulations, and procedures, as well as aseptic techniques and OR protocols. Professionalism, affability, and a positive attitude are essential while representing BTDS.
Please note that candidates must be able to meet all hospital vendor-credentialing requirements, which typically include verifiable immunization against hepatitis B, influenza, and other communicable diseases.
Duties Include:
- Engaging consistently with hospital labor & delivery staff
- Completing informed consent, donor screening, and acceptability with potential donors
- Acquiring birth tissue
- Coordinating transportation of acquired tissues, blood samples, and/or cultures to assigned destinations
- Completing donor charts thoroughly and accurately
- Assisting local BTDS leadership in supply preparation and case activity
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Basic computer skills
- Solid organizational & communication skills
- Basic understanding of medical terminology; some medical experience desirable
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or successful completion of a healthcare technical or professional program (Allied Health; EMT, Nursing, CST/ST or Hospital Corpsman)
- At least one year of surgical experience and/or donor screening/tissue bank experience
Schedule: Variable hours, sometimes arriving quite early (6-6:30 am) at a hospital and working occasional Saturdays.
Due to our commitment to giving all mothers the opportunity to donate their birth tissue, please note that some Saturday work hours will be required.
Pay: Compensation is a combination of a salary plus case pay. Details discussed at 2nd interview.
