Are you an experienced accounting professional ready to lead and inspire in a reputable credit union? Bishop & Co. is seeking a talented Accounting Manager, Controller, or Director of Accounting to join a medium-sized credit union committed to excellence for both its members and employees in Honolulu.
About the Role: As the Accounting Leader, you'll provide strategic leadership and management of the accounting function. You'll oversee accounting systems, financial reporting, cost control, and general ledger oversight. Your role will involve communicating financial positioning to senior management and the Board, participating in strategic planning and policy development, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and credit union policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting operations to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and compliance.
- Monitor and evaluate accounting systems, internal controls, and software/database needs.
- Assist in producing budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics.
- Manage the Asset Liability Management (ALM) program and prepare ALM reports.
- Analyze accounting and liquidity impacts of key business decisions.
- Identify and mitigate balance sheet risks, implementing contingency plans as needed.
- Monitor debt levels and ensure compliance with covenants.
- Direct regulatory, financial, and tax reporting, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Oversee and submit NCUA 5300 regulatory reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, legal, and regulatory standards; assist with audits.
- Lead process improvements and implement program enhancements.
- Manage staffing, performance, and development, fostering a positive work environment.
- Stay informed of financial regulations and policies.
- Represent the credit union at community and member events.
Qualifications: *This role is ideal for candidates at the Controller, Director of Accounting, or Accounting Manager levels. The final title and responsibilities will be determined based on the candidate’s experience.
Director of Accounting:
- Salary Range: $81,000 – $111,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
- Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related program from an accredited educational institution.
- 10 years of progressive senior financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP, and regulatory compliance.
- Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
- Five years of leadership/management and team-building experience.
- Asset liability management (ALM) and modeling preferred.
- MBA preferred, not required.
Controller:
- Salary Range: $67,500 - $105,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
- Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related program from an accredited educational institution.
- Eight years of progressive senior financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP, and regulatory compliance.
- Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
- Three to five years of leadership/management and team-building experience.
- MBA preferred, not required.
Accounting Manager:
- Salary Range: $56,800 - $85,000, commensurate with experience and budget approved
- Four-year post-secondary education degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related program from an accredited educational institution.
- Six years of progressive financial leadership experience providing consultation to senior management, strategic planning, managing accounting and reporting functions, GAAP, and regulatory compliance.
- Additional two years of above experience without post-secondary degree.
- Two to three years of leadership/management and team-building experience.
- MBA preferred, not required.
All positions:
- Demonstrated proficiency using personal computers and Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
- Strong leadership ability to build strong working relationships and partnerships across the organization.
- Strong analytical skills to identify problems, analyze alternatives, implement solutions, establish and manage internal accounting controls.
