Position Overview
As a guide for the school’s spiritual and educational values, the principal helps to shape the long-term vision of Bishop Fenwick High School. They unite the school community by participating in student, family, and community events. The principal also mentors our faculty to foster teamwork across academics, ministry, and extracurricular activities. Together with the school president, the principal is the face of the school, engaging with the school’s community and external partners to support the school’s mission, values, and goals.
Core Responsibilities
• Uphold Catholic education principles and serve as a leader in faith formation.
• Understand and ensure compliance with state, federal, diocesan, and school code of conduct and policies.
• Promote a culture of service, respect, collaboration and inclusiveness through academic policies.
• Support academic efforts that prepare students for post-secondary education or vocational paths, including academic advising, counseling, and extracurricular activities.
• Mentor and support faculty through continuous professional development, supporting innovative teaching, and by being an approachable leader.
• Build and strengthen parent, student and community relationships and partnerships by participating in school activities and donor/sponsorship activities.
Essential Job Functions
• Maintain ongoing knowledge and regularly share updates with faculty regarding state and diocesan education and graduation requirements.
• Ensure religious instruction meets Diocesan guidelines.
• Review and adjust curriculum to ensure it’s competitive and uses diverse pedagogical strategies.
• Identify academic needs and drive improvements for student success.
• Supervise academic programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Set and support technology goals for the school.
• Oversee student discipline in collaboration with the Assistant Principal, ensuring resolutions align with Catholic values.
• Manage academic staff hiring, supervision, evaluations, and compliance with diocesan policies.
• Ensure teachers meet state and diocesan certification requirements.
• Develop and monitor academic policies and benchmarks in collaboration with faculty.
• Supervise parent engagement initiatives to strengthen school-home partnerships.
• Represent the school in diocesan, regional, and community settings.
• Participate in professional development opportunities.
• Maintain school accreditation, including collection and final submission of annual reporting requirements.
• Support admissions and development efforts alongside the President.
• Collaborate with Operations and Finance on the academic budget and oversee expenditures.
• Maintain accurate records per diocesan and school policy.
• Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
• Maintain a work schedule that prioritizes availability to students, staff, and the school.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
• Practicing Catholic in good standing.
• Licensed (or able to convert out-of-state credentials to Ohio).
• Master’s degree in administration, or Master’s degree plus 18 hours in educational administration.
• Valid state certification for principal or completion of the state certification exam.
• 3 years of teaching experience.
• 3 years of administrative experience.
