Job Description: This person will be responsible for full time teaching of high school English classes. Extracurricular assistant coaching and moderating opportunities available.

Position Overview

This person is responsible for the teaching duties as assigned by the school Principal. Within their subject area at Bishop Kelley High School, teachers are responsible for overseeing effective course development, implementing successful delivery of content, as well as monitoring and evaluating student progress.

Job Requirements:

  • Willingness to understand and commit to the mission of Bishop Kelley High School as a Diocesan Catholic institution.

  • Ability to present material in a variety of formats to meet the needs of diverse learners

  • Ability to integrate technology in the classroom

  • Ability to reach for student success

  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of the subject matter

  • Prefer prior teaching experience at the high school level

  • Prior coaching or club moderating experience preferred

  • Effective communication skills

Prior to Employment: Must be cleared through the Virtus Background Check (Done by Bishop Kelley)

Supervisor: Principal and Department Chair

Salary: Compensation is based upon years of teaching experience and educational degree(s). Coaching role(s) will be compensated through a stipend. Benefits apply as a regular teacher.

Location: Centrally located on one campus in Tulsa, OK

    • Teaches the established curriculum for each course

    • Utilizes department goals and objectives in creating the course syllabus

    • Prepares lessons designed to implement stated course goals and objectives

    • Designs lessons in a clear, logical, and sequential format

    • Presents accurate content information

    • Plans lessons that ensure meaningful student engagement and utilizes the entire block efficiently and effectively

    • Designs lessons that encourage students to develop and exercise critical thinking skills

  • Employs a variety of teaching techniques, i.e. modeling, demonstrating, questioning, experimentation, self-teaching, lecturing, and role-playing

    • Draws from and builds upon interests, abilities, and previous learning experiences of the students and their knowledge of the world

    • Assigns activities (oral and written) that require students to apply skills and concepts they have been taught

    • Uses formative and summative evaluation techniques and activities that reflect a Catholic focus on the dignity and worth of the individual and relate to curriculum goals and objectives

    • Fosters development of good study skills

    • Integrates and models responsible and ethical use of technology in keeping with the Catholic values of the school.

  • Knows and understands students as individuals and considers their cultures, abilities, achievements, learning styles, and needs

    • Analyzes student data to develop learning strategies to foster the success of all students

    • Considers student attention span and learning styles when designing lesson plans

    • Provides for individual differences, including offering extra assistance to students when necessary

  • Communicates promptly and effectively with students, parents, counselors, department chairs, attendance office, administration, etc...

    • Communicates learning objectives clearly to students

    • Provides prompt and consistent feedback on assignments and test results

    • Uses varied techniques for communicating progress such as immediate feedback, written comments, grades/scores, probing remarks, one-to-one conferences, etc. o Updates grade book in a reasonable amount of time

  • Completes a minimum of 15 hours of the provided professional development hours annually

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Lifting up to 40 lbs unassisted

  • Frequent, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping, and walking.

  • Manual dexterity for typing, filing
