Position Overview
The College Counselor assumes responsibility for helping students develop their post-secondary plans.
- Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrate a commitment to Catholic values and the promotion of the associated culture within a Catholic school
- Educate students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures and testing; advising and supporting juniors and seniors and families as they go through the process, in order to assist them in developing post-secondary plans
- Meet with juniors and seniors, individually and in groups to talk about process and individual college choices. Collaborates with the Academic Counselors to advise all grades on curricular choices, as needed.
- Meet with all college admissions representatives and facilitate meetings between college representatives and students. Serves as a liaison with college admissions offices throughout the year.
- Assists students in overall career education including coordination of Career Day and Internships.
- Assists in compiling an annual school profile.
- Works with Registrar to maintain records for all students including GPA’s and transcripts.
- Writes school recommendations for seniors and/or any student(s) as requested, gathering information from parents, teachers, school records and the students themselves. Completes all Secondary School Reports and mid-year report forms requested by colleges, including evaluations of students.
- Provide updated resources to all juniors each spring, which includes extensive assembly of information about the college search and admissions process.
- Keep parents informed of colleges visiting our campus, scholarships, meetings, college information and matriculation lists, through the school website, individual/group emails, the school Connection, and junior parent meetings.
- Maintain Oklahoma Promise Records and disseminate to Academic Counselors.
- Meet with student athletes regarding NAIA and NCAA eligibility process and maintain accurate course listing for the NCAA eligibility center.
- Meet with National Merit candidates to complete the application process.
- Gather college acceptances and scholarship offers to be publicized at the Honors Assembly and in the graduation program.
- Coordinate and assist with implementation of school wide testing, assuming responsibility for ordering and administering at least one (or possibly more) of the following tests: PSAT, ACT, AP, SAT. Assist in disseminating data to students and parents.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Previous experience in school counseling or College Admissions experience preferred
