SUMMARY: Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the school facility including the general building maintenance, facility grounds, mechanical maintenance and repair, custodial services, and utility systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects and maintains all physical facilities on a planned basis to insure a good appearance, and the proper operation of all equipment within the building.
  • Responsible for all necessary maintenance and repair such as: landscaping, painting, carpet, floor and ceiling tiles.
  • Maintains an inventory for all custodial supplies.
  • Responsible for opening and closing school buildings, activate and disarm security alarm.
  • Conducts a proper preventive maintenance program.
  • Responsible for the general appearance and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds.
  • Empties wastebaskets and ashtrays within designated areas; transport trash and waste to disposal area. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, classrooms, shops, labs, lounge and office areas.
  • Assemble, clean and dust furniture, tables, chairs and equipment. Clean windows, blinds, doors, walls and window ledge as needed.
  • Sweep sidewalks and door entrances as needed. Clean, sweep, mop, and scrub bathrooms; refill soap, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers.

  • Education/Experience: Must have high school diploma or general education degree

(GED) preferred; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; CDL required or ability to obtain.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate and present information.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to use and understand basic mathematical skills.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements to perform this job include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
