SUMMARY

This position is a seasonal position with a stipend. The role of the assistant coach is to be

responsible for coaching a varsity team, character development and providing direction to

student-athletes so that they might achieve a higher level of skill as well as an appreciation for

discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and

respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents and community and follow the

mission of our school. Positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety

awareness are key requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type

of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The

duties may be required and assigned.

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individualgrowth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes.
  • Build and foster an inclusive, positive culture that promotes sustainable success.
  • Determine game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
  • Maintain and secure all equipment and uniforms.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  •  Represent Bishop Moore Catholic and the program in a professional manner.
  •  Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  •  Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  •  Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

CATHOLIC FAITH

Requires an appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Employees must conduct

themselves in a manner that is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church.

Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the policies of the

Diocese.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• 2-4 years of coaching experience.

• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.

• Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school

administrators, opponents, staff, parents, and students.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Comprehensive knowledge of the sport is paramount.

• Knowledge of NFHS and FHSAA rules.

• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• The applicant must possess the ability to relate to students and to serve as a positive role model

and BMC Ambassador for all constituents.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Works frequently in close physical proximity to others and

may encounter work in enclosed or tight spaces.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods of time, lift at

least 40 pounds, walk, bend, crouch, talk, feel, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands,

wrists, and arms. Also requires carrying, kneeling, stooping, and balancing. Job incumbent also required

to read/see up close and from afar.
