Position Summary

Responsible for advising adult education students and providing assistance with selecting appropriate career pathways and transitioning students to postsecondary education, training or employment. The Career Coach / Instructor will instruct Career Readiness classes which will focus on employability skills / soft skills needed for future employment. Also responsible for developing instructional plans, proper sequence and pace of classroom activities, and linking instruction to learner needs and abilities.

  • Convey the expectation of success to students and provide learning opportunities that enable students to achieve personal goals and employability advancements.
  • Extend guidance to students in realizing an appropriate career or career pathway and assists them in the steps needed to achieve goals.
  • Administer career assessments, reviews the results and provides guidance.
  • Presents various interactive career activities and inform Adult Education students of career pathway options in Mobile and Washington Counties
  • Organizes and Delivers Instruction.
  • Manages Instructional Resources.
  • Continually Assesses and Monitors Learning.
  • Manages Program Responsibilities and Enhances Program Organization.
  • Tracks student progress through pathway programs and provides assistance as needed.
  • Presents various interactive career activities for Adult Education students; provide one-on-one meetings to increase self-esteem and motivation of students.
  • Provide students with current job market trends and assist with job searches.
  • Maintain a database of current students seeking jobs; notifications of new job openings.
  • Prepare students for job interviews by assisting with resume writing and conducting mock interviews.
  • Assist students with career transition, goal setting, and time management.
  • Assist students with the steps of the admissions, financial aid, and registration processes to include applications, residency forms, selective service form, transcript request, FAFSA, Title IV form, verification worksheets, scholarship applications, WIOA and other needed documentation.
  • Facilitate campus visits based on student’s career pathway, projected major and/or interests.
  • Introduce students to recruiters and organize informational sessions.
  • Excellent oral, auditory, and written communication skills.
  • Track student progress through college entry and two quarters following exit.
  • Orient students to WorkKeys Curriculum software to prepare them for WorkKeys test.
  • Recruit students using effective networking strategies including advertising, public speaking engagements, community meetings, career fairs, and community committees.
  • Analyze current trends in hiring practices, soft skills training and develop presentations.
  • Design, plan, organize and offer specific training programs or workshops to help participants maintain or improve job skills.
  • Manage both the DHR SNAP and TANF programs for the Adult Education Program. Submit monthly reports for reimbursements to the Alabama Community College System.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Maintains a high level of competence and expertise in the area of Adult Education.
  • Participates in professional development activities including the annual summer conference.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, other employees and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Provides classroom instruction in accordance with approved local program and state requirements.
  • Incorporates current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology into the Adult Education program design.
  • Provides a variety of classroom experiences including small group instruction, teacher-directed instruction, self-paced instruction, and computer-assisted instruction to meet the needs of the learner.
  • Submits timely and accurate Adult Education National Reporting System (NRS) records.
  • Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic, and enrollment records and submits them according to announced deadlines.
  • Participates in the planning of effective long-range goals for the Adult Education program.
  • Demonstrates effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.e., prepared, well-groomed, punctual).
  • Assists students with educational and career decisions.
  • Participates in the recruitment of new students.
  • Coordinates with AE and other College personnel on the College’s Adult Education graduation ceremony.
  • Performs duties at alternate sites within the College’s Adult Education Service area when needed.
  • Performs duties related to program orientation sessions including assessment and class assignments.
  • Maintains classroom supplies, materials, furniture and equipment inventory.
  • Assumes other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Adult Basic Education Director, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development, and/or the President.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Documented experience advising academically under-prepared students with educational and career decisions.
  • Experience with a data management system.
  • Travel to AE sites in Mobile and Washington Counties in Bishop State Issues vehicle.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet career pathway classes (Morning, Afternoon and Night).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of Adult Education teaching experience.
  • Experience with Digital Recognition Cooperation Test of Adult Basic Education (DRC TABE) testing software.

Salary: ACCS Salary Schedule- E3-03
Continued employment is contingent upon funding from the grant and is on a non-tenured track.
