Job Summary
- In collaboration with the Bishop Ward team and the Inclusion Specialist, the ESL Specialist is responsible for supporting the school’s ESL program initiatives. This position collaborates with teachers, models lessons, co-teaches, plans, provides feedback to teachers, and conducts professional development, guidance and expertise on best practices for teaching and learning and successful language acquisition, specifically in the four language domain areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Essential Duties
- Coaches and supports teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality instruction for EL’s.
- Plans, models, and co-teaches effectives lessons with teachers.
- Regularly visits classrooms to provide feedback to teachers to improve instructional planning, delivery, and assessment, including planning for ongoing monitoring and support for successful language acquisition.
- Assists with the supervision and administration of the ESL support program, including curriculum and instruction.
- Analyzes assessment data to identify areas for improvement, establish goals, and monitor improvement.
- Provides leadership and support in the development, implementation, and revisions of the curriculum for ESL.
- Develops and conducts professional developments for teachers and administrators regarding instructional strategies and best practices for EL’s.
- Coordinates and facilitates PLC opportunities and the sharing of lessons to ensure the successful implementation of the program.
- Keeps abreast of all federal and state Title III and LEP/ EL guidelines.
- Assist in ESL program presentations, professional development sessions, state assessments, and training as needed.
- Assists with the selection of textbooks, instructional materials and instructional resources.
- Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
