What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oncology Data Specialist (Contract Position) position at Bismarck Cancer Center?
We are seeking a remote Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) on a contract basis to complete a minimum of 25 abstracts per month. We are looking for friendly and positive applicants who have a passion for the medical field and want to contribute to the care of cancer patients. An Oncology Data Specialist (formerly known as a Certified Tumor Registrar) is someone who analyzes, abstracts and codes patient demographics and cancer-related information, including treatment and staging. A review of medical records on all cancer cases seen in central North Dakota is entered into a database. These detail-oriented specialists ensure correct staging, coding and subsequent patient care and survival reports are completed. In addition, an ODS helps coordinate multidisciplinary cancer case conferences. This behind-the-scenes work assists physicians to provide quality care and management of their patients’ disease. The ODS will maintain ongoing training and education for accrediting agencies.
Education: Oncology Data Specialist credential or board eligibility required.
Experience: Two years in a healthcare setting preferred. Excellent computer/typing skills and ability to work independently while maintaining patient confidentiality required.
