What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Bismarck, City of (ND)?
This position performs technical duties in the maintenance and repair of a water or wastewater treatment plant or the operations and maintenance of the water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems.
Days of Work: Monday-Friday but will vary with emergencies and/or weather events. Hours of Work: 8:00 am-4:30 pm but will vary with emergencies and/or weather events. Working with all water and sanitary sewer mainlines and services, performing manual labor, operating equipment, and assisting in the maintenance of water and wastewater pumping stations. You would be required to be on the schedule for on-call, work extended hours and to work some nights and weekends.• Assists in the maintenance and repair of equipment; performs preventative and corrective maintenance; performs maintenance according to predetermined schedules and as needed.
• Maintains and repairs compressors, pump, motors, valves, water mains, HVAC equipment, boilers and specialized process equipment, and related systems.
• Cleans, repairs and maintains sanitary sewer mains, water mains, valves, fire hydrants, lift stations, etc.; operates wastewater collection lift stations and water distribution pump stations
• Responds to after-hours emergencies.
• Participates in rotating on call schedule.
• Responds to and resolves customer complaints and concerns.
• Assists in the preparation and maintenance of maintenance records.
• Assists in the modification and installation of equipment and parts.
• Monitors system operations and reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
• Cuts grass and maintains plant grounds; assists with snow removal.
• Assists in tracking inventory of parts and supplies; unloads and processes chemicals.
• Assists with building maintenance and modifications; performs carpentry, plumbing and electrical tasks.
• Generates work orders and records the completion of work.
• Locates underground utilities.
• Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: Must have ND Class B driver's license with tanker and air brake endorsements or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire. Must obtain all operator license certificates from the ND Health Department for Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection. Eligibility to obtain certifications begins after the first year of employment.
Special Requirements: High school diploma (GED) and four years experience in related field of water/wastewater systems OR Associates Degree in Water/Wastewater or Power Plant - Process Plant and 2 years experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the duties of the position. Must provide documentation of certificates/degrees.• Knowledge of treatment plant processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of water distribution and sanitary sewer collection system operation and procedures.
• Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
• Knowledge of data acquisition and records preparation principles.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of job-related tools and equipment.
• Skill in the operation of job-related heavy and light equipment.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
