Job Description: Perioperative RN – Operating Room Team Lead

Position Summary: The OR team lead will help manage the day-to-day operating room schedule, staffing, and cases through direct communication with staff physicians and other departments. The OR team lead may step into scrub or circulate a case and routinely gives breaks. Position will be Monday through Friday approximately 8 hours per day.

Accountability:

1. The operating room team lead is directly accountable to the Director of Operations.

2. The operating room team lead works in collaboration with Medical staff, nursing colleagues, anesthesia, surgical technologists, and all other staff and non-BSA support staff

3. The operating room team lead routinely communicates with other team leads as appropriate.

Qualifications:

1. Current RN state licensure.

2. Minimum 2 years of recent perioperative experience

3. Able to scrub and circulate procedures (preferred).

4. Current BCLS & ACLS or willingness to complete.

5. CNOR encouraged but not necessary.

Physical

Requirements: The Perioperative RN must be able to engage in physical activities on a daily basis. As a direct patient caregiver the perioperative RN will maintain:

1. Hepatitis immunization (Will be provided at no cost to the employee) or documented refusal to be vaccinated.

2. Evidence of negative PPD test or chest x-ray annually (Will be provided at no cost to the employee).

3. Able to maintain extensive standing, moderated sitting and assisting in the transfer of patients.

4. Physically able to perform CPR.

5. Able to lift a minimum of 20#, surgical instrumentation or equipment.

Responsibilities:

1. All responsibilities of the OR RN job

2. Communication and documentation within the OR and external departments.

3. Revises day-to-day plan (i.e. Schedule) to meet the needs of the changes throughout the day not limited to staffing and procedures, then communicates that plan to all necessary personnel.

4. Gives information and explanation to physician, staff, patients, and their families as warranted.

5. Acts as a scrub/circulating nurse during the interoperative phase.

6. Acts as a first or second assistant as necessary.

7. Communicates directly with anesthesia in coordinating the operative schedule.

8. Labels out of service equipment. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff. Plans for upcoming cases that may need out of service equipment.

9. Directs and guides support personnel.

10. Revises physician preference cards as needed.

11. Promptly handles unusual occurrences during the perioperative phase.

12. Assist in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment, and instruments offering recommendations that consider patient safety, staff safety, and cost.

10. Seeks assistance from other professional resource persons to improve skill, knowledge, and practice.

11. Acts as resource person and provides direction to other members of the BSA team.

12. Assists in orientation of new personnel.

13. Identifies unsafe patient care practices and / or unsafe environmental aspects, assuming responsibility for intervention.

14. Helps create a health care environment that is nurturing, healing and educational for patients, families and staff.

15. Continually works to unite all staff in the perioperative department and BSA as a whole. Mediating, calming, and unifying any conflicts that occur between departments and staff.

16. Communicates openly and respectfully with patients, families, staff, physicians, and other company representatives.

17. Freely accepts other responsibilities not previously mentioned or identified as they arise.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
