What are the responsibilities and job description for the Divisional Grading Superintendent position at Bituminous Roadways, Inc.?
Position Summary :
BR is looking for an experienced Divisional Grading Superintendent to join our team. The Divisional Grading Superintendent is an important leadership role that is expected to display a high level of professionalism. They are the face of the company and the ones setting an example by displaying our core values to people inside and outside of the business. The Grading Superintendent is responsible for hiring, maintaining and training competent crews. They communicate with estimators and customers when work will be completed. Our main office is in Mendota Heights and jobs are located all over the twin cities metro area. No long distance travel.
Job Duties & Requirements :
- Communicate with estimators and customers to create a schedule.
- Work with grading foreman and assist with work schedule, daily and long-range.
- Oversee all grading work and ensure work is done according to the specs.
- Establish expectations and work ethics.
- Manage equipment and employees.
- Ensure Foremen coordinate workload with paving and milling superintendents.
- Train and develop employees for advancement.
- Create a safe work environment and lead by example.
- Ensure equipment, trucks, material, and people are scheduled.
- Ensure jobs are clean and swept daily.
- Provide crews with what they need.
- Ensure foremen have a weekly and monthly schedule.
- Be a positive influence on others within the organization.
- Be professional and respectful by leading with integrity and maintaining confidentiality.
- Communicate changes as they happen.
- Communicate with job Superintendents and inspectors.
- Communicate changes to project manager.
- Understand specs and different mixes.
- Give clear direction.
- Read and communicate work orders.
- Maintain accurate and detailed field reports.
- Help manage customer expectations.
- Attend pre-con meetings.
- Adhere to all BR safety policies and ensure employees are doing the same.
- Meet with selected crew and stretch with them.
- Communicate the day's work with Foremen.
- Wear and monitor employees for PPE use and discuss issues with anyone not complying.
- Check field logs to make sure field reporting must-haves are on report before approving.
- Get accurate measurements, tonnage, and trucking for the next day's work.
- Maintain proper communication with customers and estimators so they know when work is to be completed.
- Communicate any questionable areas on job with Estimators, before proceeding.
- Hold weekly Schedule meetings with Foremen.
