Description
Basic
Purpose
· Provides engineering design services for
substation facilities and ensures that these facilities are constructed on
schedule and within committed resource allocations.
· Applies prescribed methods and standard
practices in performing all phases of projects and assists other engineering
staff on more complex projects.
Essential
Duties and Responsibilities
· Develops economical, technically feasible,
reliable substation physical and control designs. Provides technical management
of multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working
collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders. (25%)
· Ensures quality control on assigned projects by
providing construction support as needed, including coordination with
construction forces and job site inspections. (25%)
· Provides coordination and communication with
other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with moderate
supervision or guidance. (15%)
· Assists and guides other departments in the
solution of non-standard substation design problems. (15%)
· Provides accurate cost estimates for use in
company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified.
(10%)
· Provides input for development of detailed
project schedules and update project management system to reflect the status of
projects assigned. (10%)
· Ensures all compliance aspects of position are
known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and
regulations applicable to position and company.
· Performs related duties as assigned.
Education
and Work Experience
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in
engineering and 1-3 years of experience with substation design.
Specialized
Knowledge and Skills
· Demonstrated knowledge of:
· Fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge
in substation/control engineering principals and other phases of engineering.
· Economic analysis methods, budgeting procedures,
and company policies, rules and regulations.
· Utility engineering practices and procedures,
construction methods and material specifications.
Demonstrated
skill such as:
· Oral and written communication and interpersonal
skills.

and Applications
· PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database
software.
· Work Environment and Physical Demands
· General office environment. No special physical
demands required.
