Black Diamond is looking for a Packaging Designer to lead the creation and design of packaging for new seasonal products and updates to existing product packages.  This includes but is not limited to packaging, info tags, instructions, product graphics, and digital quick start guides.  The Packaging Designer is also responsible for the consistent application of Black Diamond brand standards across all product packages, apparel hang tags, and collateral and will participate in the ongoing evolution of the brand standards as they pertain to packaging.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Designs and contributes to the production of all printed packaging materials in accordance with Black Diamond brand standards and in collaboration with the individual product design teams.
2. Leads effort to implement sustainability initiatives in product packaging.
3. Contributes to the design and application of branding and graphics on Black Diamond products.
4. Participates in the Creative Team’s evolution and maintenance of Black Diamond Equipment graphic design and brand standards 
5. Creates accurate packaging prototypes when necessary to assist in the decision making process. 
6. Collaborates with other members of the product/apparel teams in the creation of packaging assets and works directly with the Packaging Developer. Directed by the Creative Director. 
7. Executes other design and graphic projects as directed by the Creative Director.

Requirements

Who You Are

• You have a proven ability to create original and professional package designs and at least 4 years experience as a packaging or graphic designer
• You have solid skills in graphic design; an excellent eye for typography, clean layout, purposeful color and refined style.
• You have experience and understanding of packaging sustainability and material impacts on the environment. 
• You have an understanding of construction methods, best practices and shipping requirements.
• You have creative package design thinking and passion; an understanding of form and proportion and user interaction
• You have a professional working knowledge of relevant design programs for print, environments, products, graphics and digital.
• You have an understanding of the printing process and workflow
• You have have the ability to work in an open workspace environment and collaborate well with other designers
• You have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
• You work well under pressure and deadlines and are comfortable with change
• You have a knowledge of and experience with Black Diamond products
• You have an excellent ability to verbally and graphically communicate ideas to internal customers 
• You have an ability to create accurate  prototypes and samples of packaging concepts
• Attention to detail is critical
• Strong artistic/design sensibility is a must
• Experience shooting, directing and working with photography and/or video is helpful
• Familiarity with rock/ice climbing, freeride/backcountry skiing, mountain culture and equipment is preferred
